About Me

My name is Michael Snively. I’m a 37-year-old father of two and I’ve been cross stitching since 2011.

Why cross stitching?

  • I suck at actual art. You know, the kind with shading, swoopy stuff, and actual artistic talent. I prefer, instead, sprite and pixel art. It’s blocky and my brain grasps it.

  • I love crafts and making things. I even went to MIT and got a Mechanical Engineering degree just to prove it.

  • It’s something I can do, mindlessly, while watching TV or listening to books.

  • People seem to enjoy what I make and the joy of others brings me joy.

For the last 14 years I’ve been designing cross stitch patterns, stitching my own pieces, stitching pieces for others, livestreaming my cross stitch, and just generally exploring as many different facets of the craft as I can.

It’s a few years old, and a lot has happened in the intervening years, but this blog entry goes a long way towards explaining my relationship with cross stitching.

Now it’s time to set aside the little projects and the casual stitching in front of the TV. It’s time to get serious! It’s time to go big or go home and to make my mark on cross stitch history. The goal? Stitch the world’s biggest cross stitch. How? With your help. You buy stitches and design the pattern, I stitch it. That’s it. Well, you know, except that it’s going to be over 2 Million Stitches and will take the better part of a decade. But those are small details :)
